Twisted plots, crazy fight sequences and most importantly, fast cars are enough reasons for any movie buff to stay hooked to the Fast and Furious franchise and with Fast 8 shooting wrapped up, waiting for the movie to release is tough.
Really tough.
Right from the 2001 movie ‘The Fast and the Furious’,the franchise gathered a fan following which remains loyal till date. With each of the movies having a cast containing multiple big names in the likes of Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham among others. Originally scripted around the world of street racing, the fifth film in the franchise saw the plot of the remaining movies shift to a heist-thriller genre which also garnered praise due to the continued use of fast cars and equally impeccable driving from Diesel and Walker. Paul Walker’s demise in a car accident shortly before the shooting of the seventh film took the world by storm with viewers speculating at that point that the Franchise was done for, but soon an 8th film was declared by Universal Pictures with F.Gary Gray in the director’s chair.
What’s new?
Rumors are rife about the crew for Fast 8 as Jordana Brewster, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson and even the Rock are expected to be part of the growing cast. Meanwhile it is confirmed that Scott Eastwood (Clint Eastwood’s son) and Mad Max star Charlize Theron will be acting in the movie. The Rock will definitely make a comeback as Luke Hobbs, the security service agent who joined team Furious in earlier sequels, which is clear from his photos appearing in the movie’s Iceland scenes.
According to Vin Diesel’s instagram post, Helen Mirren is also among the film’s main cast though her character, as of now is kept very well under the wraps. As Fast 8 shoots in multiple locations such as the exotic landscape of Arkanes, Iceland, it is also supposed to have filmed scenes in Cuba, making Fast 8 the first film to do so since turbulent times in US-Cuba relations.
Jason Statham, who played the lead antagonist in the seventh movie of the franchise, is also slated for a comeback and reprise the character of the bad-ass villain Deckard Shaw who was imprisoned in high security by Johnson’s Luke Shaw.
The Vin Diesel-Dwayne Johnson clash:
According to TMZ, The Rock had issues with Vin’s decisions as a producer. They decided to set a meeting to hash things out since the hunky stars’ issues were getting in the way of the film’s shoots. The exclusion of Vin Diesel on The Rock’s latest Instagram post might serve as confirmation to this news. The only male actors Dwayne thanked were Scott Eastwood and Tyrese Gibson. Both of them were also questioned for being the fuse that drove Dwayne nuts.
Amidst the tension, the movie is about family and Tyrese Gibson emphasizes this point by sharing a video that pays tribute to Paul Walker.
Vin Diesel revealed at last year’s Universal Pictures’ presentation at CinemaCon, LA, that Fast 8, the next movie of the F&F series would be released on 14 April, 2017.With the tag line reading ‘New Roads Ahead’, audiences are gripped; their fingers crossed as to where these new roads might lead the Furious gang in its adventures.
We’ll have to wait and watch.
