Zotac is one of the few companies which are striving to deliver a wire-free portable gaming experience for hardcore gamers by manufacturing a gaming PC into a backpack much like the MSI VR One went on sale earlier this month. The final design for the Zotac VR Go backpack PC was unveiled in October and is now available for order at a price of $1999.
“The ZOTAC VR GO is designed for a truly mobile VR experience. From hardware to comfort, every detail is considered. VR GO provides powerful yet efficient performance with an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 graphics and Intel Core i7 processor. Hardware and thermal design enable marathon playtime with comfort and minimal noise. Securing the backpack with both chest and waist straps, users can move freely in the other world”
-Statement from Zotac
The VR GO Backpack PC features an Intel Core i7-6700T processor clocked at 2.8GHz with a 3.6GHz turbo frequency. It sports 16GB of DDR4 SO-DIMM RAM, but it supports up to 32GB (2 x 16GB SO-DIMM) of memory in total. A powerful Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 8GB GDDR5 graphics module gives the VR GO plenty of GPU horsepower to provide top-end VR performance. It also features a 240GB M.2 SATA SSD, in addition to a 2.5-inch drive bay to expand your total storage capacity.
It features three HDMI 2.0 ports, two DisplayPort 1.3 ports, and support for up to 4 external displays, so while the system is designed for use with a virtual reality headset like the Oculus Rift or HTC Vive,, you could also set it up for use as a desktop gaming system when you’re not wearing the backpack.
The battery system consists of two hot-swappable 6600mAh lithium-ion batteries with a 95Wh rating, which the company said could offer up to two hours of tether-free gameplay. Zotac includes the charging dock, power adapter, and backpack with the system, but you will also be able to order spare batteries and accessories in the future (although the company didn’t give us any indication of when).
