Xiaomi’s flagship Mi 5 smartphone is available in a new “Extreme” version in China which is slated to sport an overclocked CPU, GPU and RAM. The new Mi 5 “Extreme” version is available via a third-party online retailer in Xiaomi’s home country and will pack in more of a punch than Xiaomi’s flagship device which has had a very satisfying run in the commercial market.

Hardware and Memory Specifications

The device  sports a 5.15-inch full-HD (1080×1920 pixels) with curved 3D Ceramic glass and a pixel density of 428ppi. It comes with the same Snapdragon 820 processor and includes 3GB of RAM alongside an Adreno 530 GPU. GOME has overclocked the Xiaomi Mi 5 Extreme Edition by 19%, which means it is clocked up to 2.15GHz on this model. The GPU gets the same treatment with a 22% boost up to 510MHz as does the speed of the RAM at 1866MHz.

The “Extreme” version will house 32/64/128GB of internal storage memory which is similar to the original Mi 5 and an Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system. The device measures 144.5×69.2×7.25mm and weighs 129 grams.

Camera Specifications

The Mi 5 Extreme features a 16-megapixel Sony IMX298 camera sensor with PDAF (phase detection autofocus),6P lens and LED flash. The rear camera also sports 4-axis OIS (optical image stabilisation) and sapphire glass protection lens. The smartphone supports 4K video recording. It also sports a 4-megapixel front camera for video calling and both cameras will feature a f/2.0 aperture.

Battery and Connectivity

The extreme version will house a 3000 mAh battery with Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0 technology, USB Type-C port, 4G with VoLTE, WiFi (a/b/g/n/ac), Bluetooth 4.2, NFC, and UFS 2.0 storage.

Where will it be available and how much will the device cost?

As of the today, the “Extreme” version of the Xiaomi Mi 5 is only available in China. The Phone will come in white, black, gold, and light purple coloured-variants.  The handset is listed for around $298(Approximately Rs 20,000) in Gold, Purple, and White while the Black version cost around $305 (Approximately Rs. 21,000).
