The show saw several cast members who previously worked together like Lee Sung-kyoung and Yoo Da-in who had previously worked starred in the hit medical drama Doctor Crush, and YG label-mates Lee Sung-kyoung and Nam Joo-hyuk from Cheese in the Trap.
Any chances of Season 2 Happening?
Despite gaining a global loyal fanbase, Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo’s first season was a commercial failure. This is a huge concern when it comes to renewing the show for Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo Season 2.The show premiered with a 3.3 percent rating in South Korea and during its 16 episodes run, the series received an average of 4.6 percent nationwide ratings. As per iBtimes, the primary reason behind the show’s failure is the incredible popularity of SBS’ The Legend Of The Blue Sea.
It’s worth mentioning, Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-Joo season 1 has a rating 92% out of 10031 votes at Asia Wiki. The show even won Excellent Actress (mini-series) (Lee Sung-Kyung) and Best New Actor (Nam Joo-Hyuk) at the 2016 MBC Drama Awards.
For anyone who’s interested, there is a petition started by loyal fans asking for a season 2. You can go and sign up for that.
Looking at the commercial losses, it’s hard to believe Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo Season 2 will be given a green signal. Moreover, the leads Lee Sung-kyung and Kyung Soo-jin is already busy with other projects. Kyung Soo-jin is currently is preparing for a film as her comeback film, while Lee Sung-kyung is doing a legal thriller titled Broker. Guess, we’ll have to wait and see SBS is planning to do.
