Vodafone Renews its Five Year Contract with IBM for Undisclosed Sum

Vodafone has renewed itsmulti-million dollar contract with IBM for an additional five years in a deal the details of which have not yet been disclosed. Under the renewed terms, IBM will manageIT support for Vodafone India’s IT infrastructure and applications environment, which will help the telecom giant boost itscustomer experience, cost optimization, scalability of IT infrastructure, as well as overall betterment in theirnetwork operations.

The minutes of the signed deal have not been made public by either of the parties, but estimated range from $750 to $850 Million. Vodafone India and IBM have been in businessfor almost a decade now. In 2007, Vodafone had signed an IT outsourcing deal with IBM for five years, which was later extended to include another three years. The current renewal of the contract builds upon this existing relationship between the two giants.

Vishant Vora, Vodafone India Director of Technology and Network, has commentedon the deal by saying, “We are a technology driven organization and introducing the latest advances is key to delivering the best of experiences to our customers. Partnering with IBM will help us enhance customer experience with intuitive capabilities and build a cost optimized, flexible and scalable IT infrastructure.”

But Vodafone is not the only company who has a deal of this kind with the technology and consultation giant. IBM also has a similar deal with Bharti Airtel, Vodafone India’s greatest rival on the telecom front, which was renewed for a five-yearperiod in early 2014 for an undisclosed amount estimated to be northof $500 Million. Vanitha Narayanan, MD at IBM India, points out that the company’s cutting edge services help infortifying the vision of the companies associated with it.

In IBM’s renewed deal with Vodafone will also aidVodafone India’s IT environment transition into IBM hybrid cloud, thus allowing the company to integrate existing IT resources and data assets with private cloud environments. The hybrid cloud platform will enable the telecom company in delivering more efficientdata intelligence and also in supporting faster decision-making.
