Vidya Balan has not only done some well-crafted movies which have turned out to be a great contribution to Bollywood but has also been acknowledged for bringing a change in the idea of an actress in the Hindi film industry. Vidya is right now gearing up for the release of Srijit Mukherji’s Begum Jaan which primarily focuses on the period of Independence back in 1947.
According to Times of India, the movie is based on a Bengali film by Srijit Mukherji and highlights the situation of some women residing in a brothel who are divided by the LoC and how they keep fighting for the rights which they deserve. The further report also points out why Vidya thinks that more movies on woman and partition should be made as the actress stated: “I don’t think beyond textbooks we know anything more about Partition. There are not many films on Partition and not on women especially as in what happened to them. So it’s an interesting story to tell.”
She was also asked if people would change their mentality regarding women and prostitutes after witnessing the happenings of Begum Jaan on the silver screens. But Vidya was not sure of it as it’s an enormous change to expect from the general public.
The very first look of Begum Jaan was launched on March 3, 2017, and it gained quite a lot of recognition among people. And the posters of the movie has also fetched quite a lot of appreciation from the fans which have elevated their expectations from the film.
The upcoming action drama film also stars Naseeruddin Shah, Gauahar Khan, Ila Arun, Pallavi Sharda, Rajit Kapoor and Chunky Pandey in pivotal characters and is slated to hit the silver screens on April 14, 2017.
