UP Elections 2017

The race to win the most important state in the country, Uttar Pradesh, changed directions yesterday evening when the stunning developments in the Samajwadi party seeped through. CM Akhilesh Yadav had ben suspended from the party by his own father, SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav. No constitutional crisis has erupted till now, experts say. Even as rumours persist of Congres VP extending support to the now-ousted CM, Akhilesh has claimed support of 190 MLAs out of the 229 his party boasts of and is currently meeting his father. The meeting comes after Akhilesh himself met with leading lawmakers and party member at his residence in Lucknow’s Kalidas Marg.

The CM and the father, SP supremo, in happier times

Azam Khan has extendedhis support to the SP scion, as has Amar Singh. The BSP supremo, on the other hand, has termed the feud as being one based on loot and corruption, as this report points out. Both the father and the son have claimed that this is a fight to save the party andif Akhilesh does move to form his own party, he will claim that his is the real Samajwadi legacy. A number of people have been thronging the CM’s residence since yesterday evening and are still demanding that he be brought back to win the UP Elections 2017for the sake of the party.

Several developments have followed the dramatic turn of things yesterday. One, Mulayam Singh Yadav has also convened a meeting at his residence this morning, asking all candidates he named in the UP assembly elections list to meet him. Two, the party supremo has stated that any meeting that takes place tomorrow, on the first day of the new year, will be illegal if attended by either his son or Ram Gopal Yadav, his brother who has also been expelled. Three, in contravention of his father’s wishes, the CM has asked for a meeting of SP workers tomorrow. Four,Mulayam Singh has already declared that he will soon name the next chief minister, and there is speculation that Akhilesh Yadav could be asked by UP Governor Ram Naik to prove his majority on the floor of the house to commence fighting the UP Elections 2017.

Five, the BJP has decided to fish in muddy waters by declaring that Akhilesh will break away from the party and will be a major leader in his won right. Six, if the part does split, a fight will break out on who owns the legacy of the Samajwadi party.Lastly, critics and cynics have claimed that Akhilesh Yadav will soon be accepted back into the SP fold and all these developments are mere eyewash. Azam Khan is playing the role of mediator and peacemaker, reports indicate.

We are waiting for the press conference which the CM might hold later today. One thing is clear: without the political influence of his father, Akhilesh Yadav may lose a lot pf his political muscle. Bear in mind that an upset Akhilesh did try at first tried to reason with his father and then released a separate list of candidates when it was of no use. Reports are pouring in that the CM and other party bigwigs like Shivpal Yadav and Azam Khan have left Mulayam Singh’s residence after aclosed-door meeting. No details have been revealed in public as of now.

In a late development, the CM has been taken back into the SP fold after the meet ended. As of now, the rift in the party has ended. No official sources, remember, has validated this news.We will bring you all developments as and when we get the word.
