Udta Punjab

Udta Punjab is going through a lot of turbulence and with rage row of moving to High Court dragging CBFC altogether, new development has to be maintained. Today on the very first day of the hearing in court, Justice S C Dharamkari asked for a valid reason as there was a lot of hue and cry going on. Also, in a significant verdict, it stated that 89 cuts might spoil the creativity of the entire film. Further, editing the title as it has State name does not come as defamation act. In fact, Judge of Bombay High Court got stunned when he came into knowledge regarding the Udta Punjab and CBFC row.

According to S C Dharamkari,Has drug menace never been portrayed on celluloid? Some may be crude, while some may be artistic. How does this signboard insult anyone? There was a film on Moga (a district in Punjab) being a cancer town. It was not to degrade the town, but to talk about the seriousness of the issue.

The upcoming Bollywood movie ‘Udta Punjab’ got more supporters when Censor Board Revamp Panel Shyam Benegal declared it as a well-made film. Benegal stated as “It’s a well-made movie. It brings to attention a severe problem, that of drug use among young people, which can if we are not careful, become a rampant problem. It’s a laudable effort. But people are misreading the film. They are under the impression that it is anti-Punjab. I don’t think the film is anti-Punjab at all.”

Although, the veteran filmmaker spoke on a ground of being an individual filmmaker and not as CBRP chief. He also supported the team as they did not ask for U certificate but rather went on convincing the board to provide A rate certification. Thus, with age and maturity, the film focuses on target audiences above 18 years old. Benegal supported the vulnerability of the State being the border of two countries along with becoming a passage for drug peddling and other crime bound offences.

Udta Punjab has a star cast of Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Alia Bhatt, Diljit Dosanjh, etc. It has been Directed by Abhishek Chaubey and Produced by Anurag Kashyap and Balaji Motion Pictures. Till now, the movie has been slated to release on July 17, 2016.
