The Vampire Diaries Season 9: Popular supernatural-fiction drama series The Vampire Diaries has acquired quite an extensive fanbase since the inception of the series. And the very fact that the popular show is inching towards an end with its eighth and final season has been a topic of quite sad revelations among TVD fanatics who have, since the beginning, been faithful to the show. And the latest bit of striking news for the episode might just have fans pining for a continuation of this hugely popular TV series as social networking site Twitter has been on the verge of being flooded via fan posts. All the more when the TVD enthusiasts were nearly moved to tears by Dobrev’s goodbye letter to The Vampire Diaries cast and crew. With numerous requests pouring in for TVD boss Julie Plec for a possible renewal, will she actually be able to neglect the demands of all of these ardent fans?
To See Elena back for just one episode is just too painful. Please renew the show for a final 9th season. @julieplec

The Vampire Diaries is currently in its supposedly final season, and the most exciting news pertaining to the series of late is the return of Nina Dobrev as Elena Gilbert in the series finale. Now, for TVD enthusiasts, it actually is a pretty big deal considering the fact that the whole show began revolving around the life of Elena Gilbert before the focus shifted more towards the Salvatore brothers.

The Vampire Diaries garnered more praise from fans as well as an increase in viewership when real life flames Ian Somerhalder and Dobrev developed an on-screen relationship, many pegging it as one of the ‘deepest’ relationships on TV at that point. However, owing to a falling out with Somerhalder as well as contract issues in addition to schedule problems, Dobrev left the cast at the end of Season 6 with talks of a return almost nullified. Though Dobrev has been seen fairly regularly throughout the ongoing final season (owing to Damon’s flashbacks), she hasn’t filmed any new scenes since wrapping up Season 6 in 2015. The actress, however, offered fresh audio in one of Season 7 ‘s clips where Sybil mimics Elena’s voice.
Nevertheless, TVD showrunner Julie Plec has expressed tremendous delight owing to Dobrev’s possible return for wrapping the eight season up also ending closure to the character terming it as one of the top things on her priority list. Even though the premise of her return was huge prior to any official confirmation, recent pictures on Dobrev’s Instagram handle showed a script of her for episode #816 which has almost confirmed the fact that the actress will have some sort of significant role to play in the season 8 finale.
Can’t believe the show is ending. There should be more to Delena and Steroline’s story. There a possibility of a Season 9 though? @julieplec

TVD fans, on the other hand, have remained quite stubborn in their demand for The Vampire Diaries Season 9 with most of their enthusiasm fueled by Dobrev’s mere episode-long return. The fact that fans want to see a Delena reunion over more than a couple of episodes is imminent considering the huge amount of negative criticism from fans which the show got, after Dobrev’s initial departure. After news got out of the actress’s recurring appearance, fans on Twitter went wild pleading showrunner Julie Plec for a possible ninth season.
It’s time for the cast & crew to solve out their difference & move onto a season 9 with Dobrev in it. Just one episode is too harsh

Realistically speaking, chances of a possible whole new season of The Vampire Diaries does seem quite improbable at this point with plans of the show getting wrapped up already in works. The conclusion can be made based on varying confirmed concerns primarily owing to the fact that Plec might not be tremendously excited for a possible ninth season just yet. Also, Dobrev’s fallout with Somerhalder will not actually help re-ignite any popular ‘Delena’ vibes which fans might be expecting. Earlier in January, Yibada reported that there might be the possibility of The Vampire Diaries Season 9, although on a different network. In an interview last year, Plec also opened up talks of at least some Vampire Diaries characters appearing on series spin-off The Originals. However, that is not quite exactly what the fans have in mind. Yes, they want a whole new season.
I think one episode would hardly give any closure to ‘Delena’ and they deserve more. @julieplec Please do reconsider a 9th Season of TVD.

However ruling out the possibility completely might not be a very good idea either as it won’t be the first time a show is brought back on due to popular fan demand. And what happens next will only see the light of day once the current season finishes airing. till then, it’s kind of a long wait for TVD fans. One very slight ray of hope? The Vampire Diaries Season 9 even has it’s own Wikipedia page, although there really isn’t much to it anyway except for one episode named Elena’s diary. And even though Dobrev’s heartfelt goodbye letter to the TVD family on Instagram touched every single fan deeply, the people know what they want and they are not gonna stop wanting it.
Now it’s all up to Julie Plec.
