Here we are with another Mummy film even after the previous Mummy film was nothing short fo a disaster. Once a franchise tastes money, there’s no stopping them from making more money. Tom Cruise stars in The Mummy 2017, in an obvious attempt on a film that is high on CGI and low (let alone original) on the story, going by the first trailer. Take a look for yourself:
The Mummy 2017 is a reboot of The Mummy franchise. It is written by Jon Spaihts and Christopher McQuarrie and directed by Alex Kurtzman. Although destined to sit on the throne, power-hungry Ahmanet wanted to seize power quickly and murdered her father, the king. As punishment, she was buried alive in a tomb. Centuries later when the tomb was accidentally discovered and opened, Ahmanet resurrected and rained down upon all of the humanity.
The film stars Tom Cruise, Sofia Boutella, Annabelle Wallis, Jake Johnson, Courtney B. Vance and Russell Crowe.
Speaking of rebooting the franchise with Tom Cruise, director Kurtzman told EW: “One of the things that I think has defined Tom Cruise movies, for 30 years, is that Tom Cruise always saves the day. You know whenever you’re in a Tom Cruise movie that he’s gonna figure out a way to save the day. And that’s great, and it’s why I pay my money to see his movies.”
The disaster that plagues the world inside the film raised its ugly head with the release of the first trailer. The Mummy’s first trailer was launched on December 20, 2016, by IMAX with a wrong audio track attached to it with Tom Cruise grunting and screaming and most of the sound effects missing. Subsequently, the video gave rise to a lot many memes and video montages. The trailer was of course taken down and IMAX issued a DMCA to stop the video from spreading.
