Jigisha Ghosh, the sensational murder case of Delhi of 2009 for abducting and killing the IT executive, has finally got its verdict. The two convicts Ravi Kapoor and Amit Shukla were asked to be “hanged by their necks”, the court sentenced Baljeet Malik to life imprisonment. The cold blood crime was tagged “rarest of rare” category by the court. Jigisha Ghose Murder Case Verdict has finally given relief to the millions of people and restores the faith in our judicial system.
The court “Any leniency will send a wrong message to the society… Protection of society is the object of law,” said the court. Additional Sessions Judge Sandeep Yadav said “The convicts committed the crime in an uncivilised and barbaric manner. The level, degree and gravity of brutality makes it fall in the category of rarest of rare,”
Amit Shukla and Baljeet Malik are ordered by the court to compensate Jigisha’s parents to compensate with Rs 6 lakh each. As Jigisha Ghose an operations manager at Hewitt Associates Pvt Ltd in Noida was the only earning member of the family, her tragic death not only mentally and emotionally damaged the parents of her but also financially made them insecure.
The guilty trio was charged with the destruction of evidence, forgery, robbery and common intention under the Indian Penal Code. On the fatal day of March 18, 2009, she was dropped by her office cab at 4 am in south Delhi’s Vasant Vihar, when the three accused asked her road direction and with no time pushed into a car. She was robbed and when she asked for the mercy and told her death will end the life of her mother who is sick. But they did not hear anything and killed her in a cold blooded manner. Her body was found a day later, near Surajkund in Faridabad.
The verdict is the win of the ill-fated parents’ battle for justice who lived only to see the murderers get the penalization.
