For everyone familiar with the Pilot season of ‘The Catch’, the show left viewers quite on the cliffhanger in the last scene where Benjamin/Christopher walks into Alice Vaughan’s office just as she was about to get arrested and takes the crime on him in a very unexpected turn of events. Considering the whole premise of the season, what happened in the Season finale was least expected from the con man who was expected leave town on the same day with Alice and con-business partner Rhys for company. What is worse that since the ending of the first season there has not been much news regarding the renewal of ‘The Catch’ which left many viewers worried and in a desperate need for closure.
However, at a time where a lot of shows are being discontinued by broadcasting channels, ABC has finally announced that ‘The Catch’ will return for a second season soon.
The Catch : Brief Synopsis and Season 1 Viewership
The Catch follows Alice Vaughan ( Mireille Enos), a private investigator from Los Angeles, California, who is the victim of fraud by her fiancé. She is determined to find him—between working on other cases—before it ruins her career. Peter Krause plays her fiancé, Benjamin Jones, while Sonya Walger, Rose Rollins, Elvy Yost, Jay Hayden, Jacky Ido, and Alimi Ballard also co-star.
The Catch only averaged 6.9 million viewers per week and a 1.6 rating in the valuable 18 – 49 age demographic, according to EW. Though 6.9 million and a 1.6 rating aren’t exactly a very big and competitive number, the producersa re confident that the show will appeal to more audiences with the progression of the further seasons. According to many viewers, ‘The Catch’ has familiar vibes like recently concluded hit-television series Castle starring Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic.
The Catch Season 2: Storyline Insight and Rumours
The most recent update regarding ‘The Catch’ is the cast addition of Gina Torres of Suits fame. Though the actors role in the ABC series is kept well under the wraps for now, her confirmed casting as a joining lead character will make viewers wonder about what new might incorporated in the new season of the series.
According to Digital Spy, Mireille Enos of “World War Z” and “The Killing” fame liked playing Alice so much because unlike her previous roles, she finally had the opportunity to play someone who is “stylish” and “elegant.” She also had effusive praise for Shonda Rhimes’ work ethic and creative work and is said to have ‘complete faith’ in Season 2 of the series.
As of now, there is no further news regarding the Season 2 of ‘The Catch’ but all we know is that the crime-drama series will most probably air in the Winter portion of the 2016-2017 television season. From the last season finale, what would have been an evident explanation was that Ben would be arrested for a possible case of painting theft taking the fall for Alice, but if rumours are to be believed then Mireille Enos and Peter Krause have been campaigning for more scenes together, then this suggests Ben will not actually be in jail. However, it is unclear how his character is getting out of the mess he is in.
Will Ben be able to avoid Jail and seek revenge on Margot for selling him out? Will he and Alice successfully flee the country? Or will there be a completely new set of surprises in store for next Season? The filming process for The Catch Season 2 is already on floors and Mireille Enos has already started sharing shooting photos on her social media accounts.
We’ll let you know as soon as we get wind of anything pertaining to what is going to happen in the upcoming season. The Catch Season 2 on ABC is expected to return in the mid-season 2017, perhaps closer to its March air date as the first season last year.
