It is no secret that Telltale Games, the American indie developers made famous by their episodic video game series, has been working on a Guardians of the Galaxy project for a while now. Back at the 2016 TGA event, Telltale even let fans see a short teaser featuring Star-Lord’s Rad Mix cassette and stereo walkman floating aimlessly in space. While a full-fledged trailer is yet to come out, we now have a release date for the upcoming series. The first episode, titled Tangled Up in Blue, debuts on April 18, 2017.
Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series was announced last year as a game launching on traditional as well as mobile platforms. True to that, fans will be able to buy each episode for the PC, Xbox One, PS4, Android, and iOS. There will be five episodes in the upcoming installment, the first of which will cost you $5. A disc version that will let you unlock all the chapters serially as the creators release them will be launched on May 2 in the US. You can check out some new art for the upcoming game here.
The full-fledged trailer that we were mourning the absence of at the beginning of this post is coming up tomorrow, and we have to admit that we can’t wait to see how Telltale has imagined the series. Guardians of the Galaxy the movie was a surprise hit with viewers despite its lack of the more popular Marvel characters. Telltale’s series will commence less than a month before the sequel to the 2014 film hits theaters on May 5.
In other news, Kevin Bruner, one of the co-founders of Telltale Games, stepped down as CEO to make way for former executive Dan Connors to resume his former position. “The time has come,” said Bruner in a company mail, “to pass the reins to someone that can better drive Telltale to the next level and realize all the potential that is here.”
Telltale has a lot of new games lined up for release. Besides Guardians of the Galaxy, the devs are coming up with new episodes of The Walking Dead: A New Frontier as well as the second season of Game of Thrones.
