After the release of the video for Look What You Made Me Do, Taylor Swift has come out with another video that was an instant hit. The video is for the second song that is lifted from her sixth studio album, ‘Reputation’, which is due to release on November 10. The eye-popping video for ‘…Ready For It?’ was released midnight today and has already smashed up more than 5 million views on YouTube in just under 9 hours. Fans of sci-fi movies like Blade Runner, Ghost In The Shell, and Lucy, will recognise a strong resemblance between Taylor Swift’s video and the movies. Pretty strong unsubtle hints have been left all over the video as Taylor went full replicant in the futuristic video.
There was no expense spared in the making of the video which is quite evident from the gloss in the video. It was directed by Joseph Kahn, who has been a frequent collaborator when it comes to Taylor Swift songs. Swift teased the internet for days with snippets from the video, showing its and bits of it every now and then, building up the hype. In the video, she appeared in a skin-tone thermo-optic suit, giving an illusion of being naked in the birthday suit. After all, machines do not need clothes, right?
Taylor has a doppelganger in the video who calls a filthy warehouse her home. She strolls through a trashed, futuristic laneway to the warehouse. The clone bears a strong resemblance from Scarlett Johansson’s recent turn as Major in Shell. The clone is portrayed as a dangerous one, something not to be messed with unless you are either extremely lucky or extremely strong. In a fight with the merciless cyborg, you either win or you die, she seems the kind that does not give the loser a second chance.
