The Afghan Taliban Group confirmed that their former leader Mullah Akhtar Mansour died in the US Drone Strike last week. So, the group has appointed a new leader in his place whose name is Mullah Haibatullah Akhundzada.

The group said that their new leader Haibatullah Akhundzada is one of the two deputies of Mullah Akhtar Mansour. The new leader has been appointed on the basis of a meeting held by the Taliban group in Pakistan.

Now coming to the death of their previous leader Akhtar Mansour, he was killed last week on Saturday when his vehicle was struck by a US drone. His vehicle was attacked and he was killed. It is being said that this is the very first time that the Taliban leader got killed inside his territory in such manner. The incident was therefore not only unexpected but also unbelievable to them.

It is being suspected that the Pakistani authority allowed some of the Taliban workers shelter over the Afghan border. Both the US and the Afghan government said that Mansour was being an obstacle in the peace process. The process had to make a halt and the peace treaty grounded on nowhere because Mansour refused to sign the treaty.

The movement in the name Mullah Omar was being run by Mansour for over two years. Senior Taliban figures have said his death could strengthen the movement, as he was a divisive figure. So the fear and the tension right now is more after his death.

Apart from the appointment of the new leaders, two new deputies have also been appointed in the vacant place. They are Sirajuddin Haqqani, who was also one of Mansour’s deputies, and the son of Mullah Omar, Mullah Yaqoub. So these names are very important on the part of the Taliban workers and their movement.
