Sunny Leone has got more than what she had bargained for from India. Though her original fan following in the US and in India may have stemmed from her being a successful adult film star, she is well known for being a reputed Bollywood star at present times.
Her journey from the US to India has caught the fancy of a few filmmakers, and now Sunny will be the subject of a biopic helmed by director Abhishek Sharma, who directed the critically acclaimed 2010 film, Tere Bin Laden. Moreover, the film will be starring Sunny and her husband Daniel Weber as themselves. The project is to be backed by Sunny and Weber.
Earlier, Sunny has been at the centre of a documentary film on herself. Titled Mostly Sunny Partly Cloudy, the documentary was directed by filmmaker and photojournalist Dilip Mehta. It follows Sunny’s journey from being an ordinary girl growing up in a conservative Sikh family in Canada, through her fame in the adult film industry, to where she stands today. Sunny comes across in the documentary as someone who is emotional, yet stands without any regrets about any of her life choices till date. The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival 2016 and is expected to have a worldwide release.
Abhishek Sharma’s film, however, will be totally different in mood compared to the documentary. Sources reveal that it would more resemble a typical masala film portraying the journey of an indomitable woman through her career as an entertainer as well as her love story with Daniel. Some of the couple’s friends will also feature in the film, presumably as themselves. The makers are hoping to launch the film by the end of 2016.
Sunny debuted in Bollywood in 2012 with Jism 2, and though the film was denounced by critics, Sunny rose quickly to fame in the Indian film industry. But her time in India has not been without difficulties. She recently took a lot of flak after a man from Delhi filed a complaint against the entertainer for singing the national anthem incorrectly and mispronouncing certain words. However, Sunny’s fans have lauded her in her attempt at singing the anthem.
