Sridevi has made her comeback in her latest film, Mom, and it was something that was long awaited by the audience. She has been accredited being a bigger star than all the Khans of the industry and also the first female superstar of Hindi cinema.
Her role in the movie, Mom, was received very well but the actress is refusing to celebrate the success of her movie owing to the absence of her co-stars, Adnan Siddiqui and Sajal Ali, who played the role of Sridevi’s husband and daughter, respectively, in the movie.
Both the actors could not join Sridevi on the promotional tours for Mom because of the ban on Pakistani actors in Bollywood by the Indian Motion Picture Producers’ Association after the Uri attacks in 2016.
The ban led to the famous Fawad Khan controversy. Joining the controversial ban were movies like Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Raees. Like both the aforementioned movies, Mom was also shot before the ban resulting in the absence of the Pakistani actors from the promotional tours.
In a recent promotional video, Sridevi sported a Sabyasachi saree with jewelry that was appropriate for an Indian wedding. Her hair was tied up in a messy bun and she shared her disappointment over the absence of the actors. Sridevi was dejected and her eyes were filled with tears as she expressed her grief missing Sajal and Adnan.
She thanked her co-stars for their work and performances in the film, all the while appreciating their talent. She continued on until she got too emotional and choked up on her voice, unable to continue on.
Although some may consider the actress’ grief to be genuine, there are some who believe that she is acting it out as a publicity stunt for a better promotion. They think that her support for the Pakistani actors might make her movie popular in Pakistan as well.
