Snapchat Spectacles: Back in September, Snapchat finally revealed their long rumoured Snapchat Spectacles. The glasses have video camera fitted on the edge and looked more like a toy that a hardware that people would take seriously. The company began selling the spectacles on November 10 in vending machines at appeared at places around the US.

In a clever marketing campaign, the LA-based company is selling the Snapchat Spectacles from a small number of “pop-up” vending machines, that’ll appear all over the country. Location of where the machine will next show up is kept secret, until the very last moment when it’s posted on its website here.

Snapchat Spectacles at $3000?

While this much-anticipated video sunglasses were sold at $130, the device began appearing eBay, with one pair offered for $3,000, reports Digital Trends.

The spectacle is available in three colours and the wearer can simply tap the side of the device to record up to 10 seconds video using the built-in camera placed at the corner of the spectacles. As per Weararena, the footage will be recorded in a new, circular format which can be viewed in any orientation and the battery will last for a day.

SnapChat’s 26-year-old creator Evan Spiegel explained his motivation behind creating the Spectacles told Wall Street Journal: “It was our first vacation, and we went to [Californian state park] Big Sur for a day or two. We were walking through the woods, stepping over logs, looking up at the beautiful trees. And when I got the footage back and watched it, I could see my own memory, through my own eyes – it was unbelievable. It’s one thing to see images of an experience you had, but it’s another thing to have an experience of the experience. It was the closest I’d ever come to feeling like I was there again.”

“We’re going to take a slow approach to rolling them out (Snapchat Spectacles),” Mr Spiegel told the publication. “It’s about us figuring out if it fits into people’s lives and seeing how they like it.”
