India & Pakistan joined the ongoing SCO Summit on Friday where in his speech, taking a disguised dig on Islamabad incident, PM Narendra Modi asserted that until and unless there would be a combined and coordinated approach to deal with terrorism, the issues of financing, training & radicalization of terrorist’s organization will go unnoticed.
“Whether it is the issue of radicalisation, recruitment of terrorists, their training and financing unless we take coordinated and strong efforts, it is impossible to find a solution,” PM Modi said in the presence of Prime MinisterNawaz Sharifat theShanghai Cooperation Organisation(SCO) Summit.
While addressing the annual summit of the SCO in the Kazakh Capital, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that India’s entry into the SCO family is assured to offer a fresh momentum to the grouping in dealing with darned issues like terrorism and other challenges the region is facing.
“Terrorism is a major threat to humanity,” PM Modi said, adding that there must be combined efforts to deal with it to avoid radicalization.
“I have full confidence that the India-SCO cooperation will give a new direction and strength to the fight against terrorism,” PM Modi added.
“Terrorism is a violation of human rights and basic human values. The fight against terrorism is an important part of the SCO cooperation”, he said.
PM Modi also asserted the need for smooth connectivity in the region and suggested an enhancement to better support the trades and investments.
“We have extensive cooperation with SCO nations. We want to deepen the focus on connectivity,” he said.
In the presence of Pakistan Prime Minister & Chinese President Xi Jinping among others, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that in such a grouping sovereignty & territorial integrity are the key factors for better cooperation.
“Connectivity with SCO member countries is a priority for India and we whole-heartedly support it. We want connectivity to pave way for enhancing cooperation and confidence among the societies and young people. Respect to sovereignty and regional integrity is necessary. It is also important to ensure inclusivity and sustainability,” the Prime Minister said.
The remarks by the Prime Minister are assumed significant as recently India boycotted Belt and Road Forum held in Beijing where more than 29 world leaders were participants.
The reason for the boycott was India’s concerns over the $50 billion China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, a project under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), headed by Chinese President Xi, and which passes via Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
During the meeting, Prime Minister Modi also highlighted his concerns for Indo-China relationships and said that the two countries must boost their cooperation, strengthen communication and coordination in international affairs.
After PM Modi’s address, India & Pakistan were declared full members of the SCO. “India and Pakistan are now members of the SCO. It is a very important moment for us,” Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev, the current chair of the SCO said in an announcement.
