After months of raising hell in the rumour mills, the Samsung Galaxy S8 and the S8+ were released yesterday. It is a best of a device with enormously powerful features and a stunning design. It has things that no existing smartphone can dream of doing. With the release of the Galaxy S8 and the S8+, Samsung is looking to embark on the path of redemption after last year’s disastrous Note 7 run. We decode 5 of the best features of the new smartphones.
- Infinity Display: This new feature is meant to attract attention to the new phone’s display and superior graphics. This new display feature is miles ahead of anything Apple has on offer. The screen-to-body ratio is 83%. This means that the real estate of the new phone is taken up by the display. The side bezels are barely evident.What little bezels remain are trimmed as well. Samsung’s new Quad HD+ Super AMOLED displays are some of the most astonishing design features we have seen in a long time.
- Iris scanner: This feature was first unveiled by Apple but has been modified into something better by Samsung. The first iPhone was released with a Touch ID fingerprint scanner. This is the same iris scanner which had ben featured in last year’s S7 series as well. The improvements are minor, however, and we already knew that the iris scanner in last year’s flagships were very efficient and safe.
- It comes with BOTH Bixby and Google Assistant: The new Samsung Galaxy S8 is easily ahead of every rival with two digital AI-based assistants. The operative word here is choice. With both Bixby, the Korean giant’s patented AI-based digital assistant, and Google’s own Google Assistant, we are spoilt for choice. Bixby offers a variety of nuanced features which will make it very important for the tech-savvy user.
- Wireless Charging: Thanks in major part due to the Snapdragon 835 SoC, it was imperative that the new phone would support wireless charging. This feature is just coming to the Apple iPhone. Qi and Samsung’s own fast wireless charging tech is on offer to provide more choice.
