Samsung Galaxy S8:With the kind of hype going around Samsung Galaxy’s next flagship, looks like Galaxy S8 is going to one of 2017’s biggest launch. Samsunghas a reputation of building excellent phones at affordable prices. We are sureSamsung Galaxy S8 won’t break this tradition. Samsung Galaxy Note 7 came out on August 2 and S8 launch is a couple of months away, but that hasn’t stopped rumours from spreading. We have decided to round up all news regarding the upcoming Samsung device here.
Update 14/9/16:Recent rumours are suggesting that Samsung Galaxy S8 might ditch the headphone jack like Apple.A new report suggests that following Apple’s unveiling of iPhone 7, Samsung is looking into development of its own proprietary headphone jack. If most devices get rid of their headphone jacks then within a short period of time, we’ll be left with headphones that’ll work only on a couple of handsets. It has been suggested that Galaxy S8’s new headphone jack won’t be USB-C. The information comes from South Korean sources who are supposed to be involved with the broader supple change of Samsung smartphone. We don’t exactly know to what extend the sources are involved and they didn’t provide any further details. We’ll update when we hear anything further on the matter. Stay tuned.
Update:There’s a lot of confusion regarding the exact release date of Samsung Galaxy S8. Apparently, according to some new reports, Samsung may launch the Galaxy S8 in February next year during Mobile World Conference (MWC). Codenamed as ‘Project Dream’, that hints at Google’s Daydream VR platform, the handset was previously speculated to release between March andApril,2017. However, Samsung has not confirmed any of the rumours yet. More information will be revealed closer to the Galaxy S8 launch. To recall, according to reports, Samsung Galaxy S8 will come out as one of the most powerful handsets of all time. So stay tuned for more info on the upcoming handset.
Update:Following the catastrophe with Samsung Galaxy Note 7, a lot is riding on the success of the company’s next flagship, Galaxy S8. A latest rumour indicates that the upcoming handset will mark a fresh look for the Galaxy S range. S8 will be devoid of home key and the bezels from the flagship handset. It’ll give the smartphone a seamless edge-to-edge look that’ll boost the phone’s authority and may even help Samsung with its reputation. It’s worth noting even before the fiasco with Note 7, the Galaxy S8 was being pitched as a critical device that’ll be not just evolutionary but will help establish Samsung’s domination in the smartphone industry. With the removal of the home button, the South Korean company may tuck in the fingerprint reader under the OLED screen that’ll help secure unlocking and contactless payment.
The device is likely to come with 4K resolution screen, one of the sharpest mobile screen that could make the phone a suitable platform for the next generation of mobile VR. The device has the chance of becoming the handset that genuinely delivers on a portable VR experience.
Another rumour that has gained momentum that Galaxy S8 will feature Viv AI assistant and come in two variants, both with curved Edge screens. The rumour was first reported by SamMobile and it cites its source from a known Chinese mobile tipster who made this Weibo post. A new artificial intelligence assistant developed by a Silicon Valley startup called Viv will be replacing the S Voice assistant for the S8.According to a Weibo, one of the Galaxy S8 variant will feature a curved 5.1-inch 2K super AMOLED display and the other variant will come with a 5.5-inch 4k display. The phone will likely be powered by the Snapdragon 830 processor for some markets, and by the Exynos 8895 for other markets.Samsung going for an AI Assistant is interesting though not surprising because many tech companies are putting effort into stepping up their AI game. The rumour also suggests that there’ll be changes in the hardware too, and we are yet to learn more on that.
By the looks of it, Samsung is going the minimalistic route by removing the physical home button and 3.5mm headphone jack. Many are pretty obviously comparing Samsung’s approach with that of Apple’s. And it’s worth noting that the handset is likely to hit the market around the presumable launch of iPhone 8 in September 2017. Samsung will have to really pull this one off grandly if it wants to rebuild its reputation.
