Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has been ranked No.1 as the top-earning celebrity of in 2016 on the fifth Forbes India’s top 100 celebrity list with an estimated income of Rs 270.33 crore. Thanks to the blockbuster hits of “Prem Ratan Dhan Payo” in late 2015 and then “Sultan” in 2016, he has topped the list this year leaving behind superstars like Shahrukh Khan, Amir Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Rajinikanth, Mahendra Sing Dhoni and Virat Kohli.
Forbes India considered two parameters while judging the ranking: entertainment-related earnings and fame during the period of 1st October 2015 to 30th September 2016.
However, Salman is able to get No. 2 rank in the fame rank just after flamboyant Indian Cricket Skipper Virat Kohli. Salman’s total earning constitutes of 9.84 percent of the total wealth of all the 100 celebrities at 2,745 crores.
SRK, whose estimated earnings stands around 221.75 crores, is positioned in the second place in the overall list and No. 3 spot in fame list.
Topping the fame list, sports superstar ViratKohli’s income of the year is Rs 134.44 crores and he is at the third place in the overall ranking from seventh at last year.
In the overall list, Akshay Kumar secures No. 4 rank with the earning of 203.03 crores thanks to his superhit movies like “Airlift”, “Rustom” and “Housefull 3” though in the fame list he is not even in top 10. His rank is 11th in the fame ranking.
Former Indian cricket captain Mahendra Sing Dhoni is placed at the fifth position in the overall list with the earnings of 122.48 crores, while in fame ranking he is back at No. 4 because of his recently released hit biopic “M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story”.
There are only two female actresses in the top 10 list: Deepika Padukone at 6 and Priyanka Chopra at 8. The evergreen cricket god Sachin Tendulkar seats at No. 7 spot. Amitabh Bachchan and Hrithik Roshan take the No. 9 and No. 10 spot respectively. Among others, Ranveer Sing is at No. 12, Ranbir Kapoor at No. 19, Madhuri Dixit at No. 22 and Katrina Kaif at No. 25 in the list.
Among the biggest gainers this year is superstar Arijit Sing at No. 15 from 65 in the previous year, legend Rajinikanth at 30 from 69 thanks to blockbuster hit “Kabali” and author Chetan Bhagat to 40 from 66.
There are also a quite a few newcomers this year on the list. Some of the are: The new badminton superstar P.V. Sindhu at No. 62 thanks to his grand success in Rio Olympics, the famous chef Sanjeev Kapoor at No. 73 and Rapper Badshah at No. 81.
