After nominating as the Indian Olympic contingent’s “goodwill ambassador” for the upcoming Rio Olympics 2016, Salman Khan has now taken the initiative to cheer the Indian athletes who are going to participate in the “Greatest Show on the Earth” through his Twitter account. And as the first step of his unique initiative, Salman has exercised his voice for the Mumbai-born Bengali shooter, Ayonika Paul.
Ayonika, who competes in the 10m Air Rifle event, has sealed her berth for the upcoming Rio Olympics 2016 kudos to her Silver-medal winning performance at the Asian Olympic Shooting Qualifying Tournament. The qualifying tournament was held in New Delhi between January 27 and February 3.
The Rio Olympics is going to start from 5th of August and Indian Shooting Team has some realistic dreams to win medals in this particular discipline. Apart from Ayonika Paul, shooters like Pooja Ghatkar, Heena Sidhu and Mohammed Asab, all have booked their ticket to Rio for their respective events, through this Asian Olympic Shooting Qualifying Tournament.

A few days earlier, when Salman was appointed as the “Goodwill Ambassador” by the Indian Olympic Association, the sporting fraternity of India got divided with and against the move. Athletes like Yogeshwar Dutt and the “Flying Sikh” of Indian athletics, Milkha Singh heavily criticized Salman’s nomination whereas India’s Hockey captain Sardar Singh, gold medal winning shooter Abhinav Bindra and legendary boxer Mary Kom all raised their voice to support Salman.
The main motto behind Salman’s appointment as the ambassador; IOA is trying to cash in the huge fanbase of this Bollywood megastar and wants to connect as many as people to Olympic sports and to stand up for the Indian Olympic contingents. Apart from Salman, IOA also appointed Sachin Tendulkar and Abhinav Bindra as the goodwill ambassador. So now it is interesting to see whether Salman’s support and cheer can motivate the Indian participants and whether they really can make India proud.
