Much to the joy of fans everywhere, it seems like Rockstar has begun systematically promoting what looks like the next instalment in the Red Dead series, Red Dead Redemption 2. Today, the Red Dead developer has shared a new image on social media that features a bright red background against which you can see the distant figures of several people slinging guns and sporting cowboy hats. This could certainly mean that we are nearing the announcement of something big, quite possibly about the highly anticipated upcoming title, Red Dead Redemption 2.
It was only recently that Rockstar showed off a brand new logo in bleeding red which surfaced on all of their official social media accounts. The new image, which had the Rockstar logo set at the centre of a bright red background, served for fans as an instant reminder of John Marston’s epic Western adventure game. It is the same red background that looms large over the new poster. However, besides the colour and the Western looking figures, there is nothing else to confirm its relation to Red Dead Redemption 2.
But while fans could only speculate over the obscurity of yesterday’s image, the one Rockstar shared today seems to be more than just a tease. In fact, the image is in line with some of the earlier rumours that had surfaced about Red Dead Redemption 2, which speculated that Rockstar may bid adieu to its normal tradition of following a single central protagonist in the upcoming Red Dead title. Instead, following the manner of another successful game from Rockstar, GTA 5, Red Dead Redemption 2 is likely to feature multiple playable protagonists. Indeed in today’s poster, we can see seven darkened figures in the horizon. While it certainly may seem like a stretch that the upcoming game will include seven different playable protagonists (GTA 5 had only 3) it is tempting to guess at the possibility.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is one title that has been rumoured for a long time but Rockstar has been very tight-lipped about. But now it seems they have embarked on an organised campaign for the upcoming game. Another possibility is that the new teasers may have nothing to do with the sequel, but with Red Dead Redemption itself. Recently, Rockstar re-released Red Dead Revolver on the PS4, so we might see the same for Red Dead Redemption.
Whatever be the case, we expect to see more of these intriguing shares from Rockstar soon. Stay tuned for more updates.
