India have not yielded any significant results so far in terms of medal tally in the ongoing Olympics but the persistent participants from the sub-continent have no intention of giving up their medal hunt. Day 8 of the Rio Olympics at the games village will kick off with a total of events featuring Indian participants.
Woman’s Doubles(Group A):
Jwala Gutta/Ashwini Ponnappa will face Puttita Supajirakul/Sapsiree Taerattanchai of Thailand in Group A of the Women’s doubles event
Skeet – Men’s qualification and finals:
Mairaj Ahmed Khan will take part in the Men’s Skeet Qualification, Day 2

25m Rapid fire pistol – Men’s qualifications and finals:
Gurpreet Singh will be in action looking to build on his 10th position in the Men’s 25m Rapid Fire Pistol, Qualification, Second Stage.

Event- Field Hockey women ( Group B)– India vs Argentina:
Making the quarter-finals has come under question for the national women’s team as the Indian team faces a must-win match against Argentina. In order to qualify for the quarter-finals pay-off , they must also hope that Japan lose to Australia in their group match.

Event- Tennis Mixed Doubles (Semifinal):
Sania Mirza, Rohan Bopanna will look to assure India the first medal when they play the mixed doubles semi-final against R.Ram and Venus Williams of the United States.

Event: Athletics (Track):
Women’s 3000m Steeplechase round 1:
Lalitha Babar, the first Indian woman steeplechaser to reach a world final will fancy her shot at a medal at the games village on Saturday.
Timing: 06:35 Pm onwards.
Women’s 400m round 1 and 100m(qualifications and semi-finals):
Nirmala Sheoran and Dutee Chand will then be seen in 400m and 100m respectively.
Timing: 05:35 PM onwards.
A lot are riding on this specific segment of the Indian contingent and especially on the Tennis duo of Mirza and Bopanna who have qualified for the semi-finals of the mixed doubles tournament. The woman’s hockey team is also on the brink of a quarter-final qualification provided that they come out with flying colours in their clash against Argentina.
