Renault unveiled the Kwid next model recently. It is not only stylish but comes with strong quality. Reports from Indian media are suggesting that the next CMF-A car is a sedan based. CEO Carlos Ghosn said that the CMF-A platform underneath would underpin an entire family of cars. He stated: “I have a lot of work ahead of me, developing new bodies on this…platform. I think in five years, by 2020, we should be able to sell 1 million cars per year on this new platform…We can do everything, a 4X4, hatch, sedan, seven seaters and pick-up.” A low-cost smart hybrid system is also being developed to be offered with this product, on the lines of Maruti-Suzuki’s SHVS only to make it more competitive in the segment it.
The Kwid’s CMF-A platform has been restricted to a particular place in the Indian market up to 98 percent. With that in mind, it’s indeed likely that Renault India can launch more body styles to influence the low production costs that are attributed to the high localization of the CMF-A platform. It can help Renault-Nissan reach a target of 1 million CMF-A- based cars per year by the end of the decade, which will ultimately help Renault India’s ambition of increasing market share in the country up to 5 percent by 2017. Right now the company has a market share of about 2 percent. The CMF-A platform may come with only petrol facility. But according to some serious critiques, they could bring the next gen Logan here in India with a different name instead of developing an all-new car. One must mention that sources in France have denied the existence of a sub-compact sedan project, instead hinting at an SUV.
