Fans have been waiting for a long time for an update regarding the possibility of a sequel to the hugely successful Red Dead Redemption game. There had been much excitement over the 2016 edition of the E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo) where fans expected an official announcement to be made by the makers; but they were disappointed.
Many consider the speculations for a possible sequel to be baseless, for the Red Dead makers Rockstar San Diego never confirmed any such possibility. The speculations are based on a few assumptions and half-affirmations on behalf of the fans and the makers respectively: fans think that it would be imminent for the makers to cash in on the popularity of the Red Dead franchise by making a sequel, while the developers may have hinted that they are focusing on a new project; but it does not necessarily imply that it would be related to Red Dead Redemption.
Other reasons why Rockstar may have avoided any discussion about a possible sequel to Red Dead could be because of the fact that its other title, Grand Theft Auto, is currently experiencing success with the multiplayer version, Grand Theft Auto Online, or that the developer may have exhausted its manpower on the post-release content development for GTA Online.
But fans refuse to give up hopes of a sequel, especially now that Red Dead Redemption is currently offered as a Backward Compatibility title for Xbox One. Upon its release in 2010, Red Dead Redemption was highly acclaimed by critics, scoring 95/100 on MetaCritic for both the Playstation 3 and the Xbox 360 versions, and receiving perfect scores from reviewers including GameSpy, 1Up.com and GamePro for its plot, presentation, visuals and game-play mechanics. In the current Xbox One version, it can be played with smoother performance, although the visuals are similar to that of Xbox 360’s.
The game can be downloaded via the Xbox Store. For those who already own a digital copy of the game for Xbox 360, it will appear in the Xbox One collection automatically.
As of now, the question whether there will be a Red Dead Redemption 2 remains unanswered.
