Fans of Rockstar San Diego‘s hugely popular open-world, western action-adventure game, Red Dead Redemption, have long been waiting for some updates about a possible sequel to the storyof John Marston’s exploits. But disappointments prevailed after the developers did not make any mention of such plans at this year’sElectronic Entertainment Expo, better known as E3.
That didnot stop the rumour mills from churning, though. Rockstar recently admitted that they would be revealing some new projects soon, and this may well have to do with some of the other titles in Rockstar’s huge gaming repertoire, but Red Dead fans are seeing it as a positive sign pertaining particularly to the game of their concern from the developers.
The latest rumourshint that the new sequel to the game, which may be titled Red Dead Redemption 2, or even Red Dead 3, may break away from their past tradition of following a single protagonist’s story and actually include the trope of multiple protagonists, probably in the fashion of GTA 5(which lets players switch between three protagonists). The two earlier games in the series from Rockstar had their storylines linked to a single, central protagonist ( Red Harlow in Red Dead Revolver and John Marston in Red Dead Redemption), and this would aid players in being more involved with the game’s storyline. But according to these new reports, Red Dead Redemption 2 is already in the making and it will feature two new protagonists.
But how this new development affects the game will remain to be seen, if it ever actually does happen. Given that there have been no announcement or confirmation from the developers regarding this report, there is no way for anyone to verify its authenticity yet. Add to that the fact that Rockstar has pretty much confirmed that therewill be no announcements regarding Red Dead Redemption 2before 2017, and what we have on our hands is nothing but an airy gossip.
However, this new speculation has left tongues (and hopes) wagging, and fans are already beginning to expect an announcement to be made at the upcoming Gamescom 2016. But while Rockstar did mention that they have a few exciting projects lined up, and their presence at the German event this year has been confirmed by some reports, all thismay, in fact, pertain to some of the other titles in the developer’s stable.
