Fans of the hugely successful Red Dead Redemption game felt pretty gutted over the lack of any official communication from the game’s makers about the possibility of a sequel at this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo, better known as the E3. Moreover, for those who were hoping for some kind of a hint at this year’s upcoming Gamescom, Rockstar San Diego has recently confirmed that there will be no announcements regarding Red Dead Redemption 2 before 2017.
This would make sense as the Gamescom 2016 is to be one of the most low profile chapters of the event in recent years with no appearance from the biggest names in the gaming biz. Moreover, it is a fact that the two creators of the PS 3 and Xbox 360 game, Rockstar and Take-Two Interactive, have released an official statement that they will not be releasing any new titles before April 2017.
Many consider the speculations for a possible sequel to be baseless, for the Red Dead Redemption makers never confirmed any such possibility. The speculations are based on a few assumptions and half-affirmations on behalf of the fans and the makers respectively: fans think that it would be imminent for the makers to cash in on the popularity of the Red Dead franchise by making a sequel, while the developers may have hinted that they are focusing on a new project; but it does not necessarily imply that it would be related to Red Dead Redemption. But fans refuse to give up hopes of a sequel, especially now that Red Dead Redemption is currently being offered as a Backward Compatibility title for Xbox One.
However, this does not mean that Rockstar San Diego will not be delivering any new game that will be high on the excitement factor. Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick was reported as saying, “Rockstar Games is of course hard at work on some exciting future projects that will be revealed soon”. According to reports, Rockstar and Take-Two Interactive will be attending the August 2016 chapter of Gamescom.
