American television crime drama series Ray Donavan will soon hit the small time screen for its fifth season.After four tremendous seasons, on August 11, 2016,Showtime confirmed that the popular crime-drama show will be renewed for a fifth season which can also be its last. And just likethe previous season, Showtime gave an order of 12 episodes for the upcoming chapter to Ray’s story.
The pilot episode of Ray Donavan broke records of viewership, becoming the biggest premiere of all time on Showtime.Ray Donovan Season 4 recorded a 0.31 rating from the coveted 18-49 demo group. It received an average of 1.217 million viewers per episode.For its third season, the drama scored five Emmy nominations for the 2016 awards, marking the most nominations the show has received to date. Schreiber earned his second consecutive nomination of outstanding lead actor; Jon Voight nabbed his second nomination for outstanding supporting actor; Hank Azaria was nominated for outstanding guest actor; showrunnerDavid Hollander earned his first-everEmmy nomination for outstanding directing for a drama series; andRobert Edmondson, R. Russell Smith and Harrison Marsh were honored with nominations for outstanding sound mixing.
The show takes place in Los Angeles, California, where Irish-American Ray Donovan (Liev Schreiber), originally from South Boston, works for the powerful law firm Goldman & Drexler, representing the rich and famous. Donovan is a “Fixer”: a person who arranges bribes, payoffs, threats, etc., to ensure the outcome of a given situation. Ray experiences his own problems when his father, Mickey Donovan (Jon Voight), is unexpectedly released from prison, and the FBI attempts to bring down Ray and his associates
So far, there has been no reported confirmed arc regarding the storyline of Season 5 but showrunner David Hollander revealed that he already has an idea whatwill happen in the upcoming season.
“I promised myself I wasn’t going to think about the show, but as I was flying back, the computer came out, and I realized I know where the show is going, which surprised me. I usually like to wait until the finale airs. I don’t really know what the show is until it’s on the air. It’s not real until it airs. Is that weird?”

Some sources say that the fifth season will inch towards the ending of the series and will involve a significant time jump into the future but no confirmation regarding the information has been obtained so far. David Hollander also confirmed that the show will not end with Donavan’s death, much to the delight of the huge fan-base of the series.
Showtime has not divulged premiere details for the fifth season of the crime-drama series. However, we are confident that fans will get new episodes to look forward to by mid-2017.While the network tends to move its shows around, the crime thriller is likely to keep its summer schedule.
