Another revelation after the controversial attack on director Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus Padmavati! There was a reason according to the attackers Shri Rajput Karni Sena in Jaipur as they believed the story had been changed and the historical events have been marred. Now as per the movie, Bhansali’s portrayal of the QueenPadminiof Chittor during the 13th century and Delhi Sultanate Alauddin Khilji’s obsession with her alleged distortion of history and wrongful.
The fact most of the people don’t know is Alauddin Khilji has an obsession with beardless boys, and he had a troop of 50,000 beardless boys. He had an immense attraction for Kafur’s effeminate beauty and bought the slave from a slave market in Gujarat for thousand gold coins and bestowed a lot of attention. Malik Kafur took advantage of Khilji’s obsession and manipulated him to rise through the ranks to become Malik Naib. Tarikh-e-Firozshahi depicts the obsession of Khilji explicitly.
Now the question may come then why he obsessed for Rani Padmavati and why she had to die in such a manner. The answer is simple for the historians. According to the writer, mythologist and author Devdutt Pattanaik history has ample examples for the bizarre desire of Khilji, and there was no such sexual obsession for Khilji towards Padmavati, it was simple desire to capture Chittor, and the death of Padmavati was a result of her keeping herself free till death and not let a Muslim conquer and capture her.
No doubt the upcoming movie Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati is becoming more intrigued day by day. First the casting issue, then the producer’s problem, then there was uncomfortability on the sets for Ranveer and Shahid, then the political issue and now the distortion of historical data. The controversy has become the second name of the movie Padmavati. But we have to accept all these things have actually worked as good promotion and marketing for the film and now we just cannot wait for the movie to be released!
And now it will be interesting to see whether the director can be bold enough to portray the real Khilji or will choose the stereotypical way to show the prowess of a Sultan for a beautiful queen!
