Indian National Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi chaired the Congress Working Committee (CWC)meeting today in absence of Sonia Gandhi. Rahul slammed the Modi Government in his opening speech at the CWC meet itselfby stating that “The Modi Government is obsessed with power, it seeks to silence all those who disagree” as reported by ANI.
However, Rahul made sure to shed light on the current political scenario of the country at the CWC meeting by mentioning in a statement saying“Democracy, under the present dispensation, is going through one of its darkest hours”. Rahul then went on to talk about how the Government had ordered to shut down NDTV for a day by stating“TV channels are “punished” and asked to shut down. The opposition is being “arrested” for holding government to account”as reported by PTI.
Rahul attacked the Modi Government on several instances at the CWC meet. He also said that the present Government do not like being questioned by people as it discomforts them and they do not have any answers to their questions. However, it was the first time for the 46-year-old Indian National Congress Vice President to chair a CWC meeting.
However, Rahul also made sure to highlight how Manish Sisodia and he were not allowed to meet an ex- soldier’s family by mentioning“Our jawans are being cruelly rewarded by a callous government, with the denial of OROP and the cut in disability pensions,”.
Nevertheless, the Winter Session of Parliament is approaching as it starts from 16th November and the Congress is looking forward to confront the current government regarding several issues which are needed to be highlighted.
Nevertheless, Congress leaders such as P. Chidambaram, Manmohan Singh, Janardan Dwivedi, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Ambika Soni, AK Antony and Ahmed Patel were also a part of the CWC meeting, as reported by TOI.
Update:Congress Working Committee has extended the tenure of Sonia Gandhi by a year and urged Rahul Gandhi to be the party President.
