R K Pachauri (Ex-TERI Chief) Allowed To Travel Abroad

On February 13, 2015, a complaint was lodged for sexual harassment case by her colleague under IPC sections in against of the then TERI Chief R K Pachauri. After more than a year and series of investigative processes, Delhi High Court granted bail thus allowing him to travel abroad, here on Monday.

After his consecutive appearance in front of the court, he was accorded to move freely. In an instant, Pachauri appeared before Metropolitan Magistrate Shivani Chauhan was allowed to travel to Mexico, where he is to address and attend a conference for a month. The summon filed against him have been withdrawn subjected to a minimal development of offences.

As of Magistrate statement that the investigation is almost over, and no fruitful pieces of evidence have come up as such which clarifies regarding the case filed for sexual harassment. Further, he opined as there is no such area found where he could be subjected to be guilty and also it would not be justified enough if sent to jail. The courtgranted Pachauri bail on condition of furnishing a personal bond of a sum amount of Rs. 50,000 with full surety and guarantee.

According to Delhi High Court, The accused has been granted permission to travel abroad on several earlier occasions and has complied with the directions given by the court. In these circumstances, the accused is permitted to travel as per his itinerary from July 12 to August 14 subject to furnishing of one local surety of Rs. 2,00,000.

Pachauri’s Councillor Ashish Dixit filed the application seeking permission as he was granted bail to travel abroad before. TERI ex-Chief returned in India after 20 day trip on July 5, 2016, from Mexico, Norway, France and Switzerland thus directing to appear in front of the court whenever required. The court appealed to submit all his travel documents including copies of tickets and intimate the jurisdiction whenever returned from abroad.

The following case lodged against Pachauri under IPC various sections such as 354A (sexual harassment), 354B (assault against a woman with intent to disrobe), 354D (stalking), 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and 341(wrongful confinement).

A case was filed by Delhi Police on March 1, 2015, when ex-Chief of The Energy and resource Institute, R K Pachauri was accused of making sexual coloured remarks, teasing on several occasions, touching inappropriately, SMSing and sending messages through Whatsapp despite clear expression of disapproval from the complainants side.
