PlayStation 5

In September 2016, Sony launched the latest version of its last console. Judging by all the reviews that have been pouring in since then, PS4 Pro has a lot to offer and is one of the most revolutionary game console to exist today. PS4 Slim is already out and about and Sony rolls out PS5 Pro in November. It’s time that we turn our attention to the next console – the PlayStation 5, which is expected to be a milestone in Sony’s console lineup. In this post, we are interested in delving into what PlayStation 5 is likely to offer. There are doubts whether PS5 is coming out at all! But we’ll try and shed some light on that.

PlayStation 5

Competition-wise, the Xbox One Scorpio by Microsoft seems to pose the biggest threat, followed by the supposed proposed Nintendo NX which is said to be a handheld-console hybrid.

It may look like we are speculating too soon but several PalyStation enthusiasts are already looking forward to PlayStation 5. As per Techvicity,Macquarie’s Damian Thong had correctly speculated about PS4 Slim and now he speculates that Sony will launch the PlayStation 5 in 2018. A Tokyo-based technology reporter from Wall Street Journal, Takashi Mochizuki backed Damain’s claim.

PlayStation 5 Release Date

PCAdviser reports that earlier this year Sony’s software product development head Scott Rhode told MTV: “Very soon we’ll start thinking about what we’ll do next. That’s the culture at Sony. We always have to do something that’s bigger and better than what’s already been done.” The publication reports that the PS5 is coming sooner than expected.Sony UK boss Fergal Gara had said: “It’s probably a sign of the times and how much has changed in seven years, but I think the willingness and the appetite to pick up new technology fast has probably changed quite a bit.”

Sony is reportedly workingon shorter timeframes between its PlayStation launches which meanswe won’t have to wait too long for the next Sony console. We are not sure how this will play out since creating a console requires a considerableamount of time. Likewise, customer invests considerablemoney on both the platform as well as its proprietary titles. If owing to the fast-paced development of technology, the PS5 is anything less than revolutionary, Sony will take a big hit from where it’ll be difficultto recover. But of course, these are only speculation and should be taken with the grain of salt.

We’d peg 2018 fo the release of PS5if Sony means to shorten the time between its PlayStation releases. For a more realistic PS5 release date we’d go for 2020.

PlayStation 5 VR is Definitelyon the Table

Sony launched the PlayStation VR in October, 2016 so when PS5 comes out, it’ll definitely be PSVR ready. The PSVR is anaffordable version of Oculus Rift and HTC Vive at $399 / 349 / AUD$549 / 399. There’s a catch. Sony is currently struggling to meet the demands of its new virtual reality headset, especially with the arrival of PS4 Pro and Slim. By the time PS5 comes out, the PSVR too will evolve and it’ll be interestingtoexperience the two devices together.

PlayStation 5 Price

At this point, it’s hard to tell how much will PlayStation 5 cost. With the PS2 costing 300, the PS3 425 and the PS4 349,thelaunch price of PS5 will most likely cost around $400.

PS5 Will Likely be the End of Disks

By the time PS5 launches in 2018/2020, we are almost certain that the world would have moved on todigital downloads. As we have seen with movies and music industry, the PlayStation 5 will stop using disks. We think the PS5 could take the first plunge and launch without the slot for a physical media. Broadband speed may be an issue here, but we are hoping that by the time PS5 hits the market, broadband speeds will have increased.

Two Versions of PS5?

There’s a rumour doing the rounds that there will be two versions of PlayStation 5. Back in 2014, when the PS4 came outScott Rhode told MTV: “We always have to do something that’s bigger and better than what’s already been done.” It is believed that one version will have more setup with only the most basic features and capabilities that one can expect from PS5. While the other version offers a more robust setup for hardcore gamers and it’ll be more expensive too.

2016 being a big year for VR, there’s also speculation that consoles will eventually move onto VR headsets. Alongside Augmented Reality too will soon replace handheld devices.

As per Ecumenical News, the PS5 is expected to arrive with a 4-layer Blue Ray disc to fortify its gaming adeptness. It’ll enable the console to remain at the top of its game. It’ll also come with an advanced kind of Wi-Fi and that’ll have support for hard drive and flash memory.Further more, the publication states that the console may come with expandable storage capacity, for saving as many games as possible.

Now that Sony has launched PS4 Pro and Slim, two of its most threatening opponents are the Xbox One Scorpio by Microsoft and the supposed proposed Nintendo NX (which is through to be a handheld console). As for the future consoles, Sony has refused to make any official disclosure. We are a long way from receiving any official confirmation on these PlayStation 5 rumours. Only time will tell what the future holds. Stay tuned.
