Italian two-wheeler manufacturer Piaggio had earlier unveiled the premiumsports scooter-bike Aprilia SR 150 at the 2016 edition of the Indian Auto Expo in February. Representatives of the lifestyle scooter manufacturers had said that with this new model, they wanted to appeal to the young riders who look for the sensation of a sports bike and the convenience of a scooter during their daily city commute.
Now Piaggio, which has already carved a niche for itself in the Indian market with its line of Vespa scooters, is ready to launch the premium crossover two-wheeler vehicle in August 2016 at the price of INR 65,000. TheAprilia SR 150 will be sporting a single cylinder 150 cc4 stroke engine, 14-inch wheels with five spokes that are similar to the Aprilia racing bikes seen on the Moto GP championship circuits and auto-gears that are seenin scooters.
The company said that the market for scooters in India is one of the largest in the world which has continued to grow at a rate of 20% according to the statistics of 2016 compared to those of the same time period last year. This is precisely the opportunity that the company aims to cash in on. They also made clear the intentions to stay true to the heritage of the original Aprilia model, and that shows through the design of the new scooter-bike.

The design aesthetics of the SR 150 reflect the sporty character of the Aprilia brand with a light-weight engine which creates a new category in India’s the scooter segment.”
The bookings for the Aprilia SR 150 are expected to begin shortly and they will be available through Piaggio Group’s distributor network across the country.
