Panasonic which has already left their marks I India by selling a range of mobile devices is all set to unveil a new series of low-budget smartphones under ‘Sanyo’ brand. The Japanese multinational electronics corporation had acquired Sanyo Electric back in 2010, and now finally they are launching a smartphone under the brand. Sanyo has been famous over the years for their audio and video products, home appliances and other products but the smartphones.
Though we have not heard much about the upcoming Sanyo smartphone, it is expected the device will come with a price tag of $96 to $192 (approximately Rs 6,000 – 12,000). The smartphones will be limited for sale only over online retailing stores just like Huawei did with their Honor sub-brand.Sanyo will start selling the budget smartphones in 2017. Earlier this year Panasonic has released a series of Sanyo-branded budget LED TVs in India.
The report published in Nikkei also suggests that the production of Sanyo-branded smartphones will be outsourced from an external company. Google had done something similar when they launched smartphones manufactured by an external company under their own brand. Panasonic has also adopted the same strategy as they are selling low-priced smartphones which have been designed and manufactured through outsourcing in the Indian market. The Japanese tech giant also has their own plants where they assemble phones at ‘semi-knocked down’ level. Panasonic is gearing up for ‘fully’ manufacture phones in the country within next two years.
