Orange Is The New Black Season 4 premiered a couple of weeks ago on Netflix and left fans devastated by the unexpected death of Poussey’s (played by Samira Wiley) character. Her character was well liked and therefore the horror of her unfair death left many fans fuming. It’s pretty clear that Poussey won’t be returning to OITNB, but fans can rejoice by the news that Samira Wiley has been cast in The Handmaid’s Tale, which is set to run on the streaming site, Hulu.
In a recent interview with Mic, Wiley spoke about her departure from OINB. “There was a lot of people who assumed I asked to leave the show, which is the furthest thing from the truth.” The actor said she too was shocked on learning of Poussey’s fate. Wiley went on to talk to the show’s creator Jenji Kohan and eventually understood why her character had to die. Her death has to make a strong message. Samira Wiley explained: “You want to do this to someone who you feel like has a future so it can hurt that much more.”
The Handmaid’s Tale:
Based on the famous novel written by best-selling author Margaret Atwood, The Handmaid’s Tale is being adapted into 10 episodes drama on Hulu. Set in a dystopian country called Gilead (previously known as the US), the story centres around Offred, a woman who like other women in the country, is treated as second-rate citizens. And her primary role in society is reproducing and serving the fundamentalist leaders.

What is Samira Wiley Playing:
While Elisabeth Moss will play the lead role, Offred, Wiley will be playing Moira, her college friend. Since Moira too, is a handmaiden like Offred, training at the Red Center in Gilead, the two women would be seen bonding in a world of oppression and devastation.
The filming begins in the fall in Toronto. The Handmaid’s Tale will be releasing in 2017. Samira Wiley is expected to guest star in the comedy series You’re The Worst for its third season.
