NorthEast United Football Club (NEUFC) has today appointed their new head coach, Eduardo Manuel Martinho Braganza de Vingada, famously known as Nelo Vingada, for the upcoming third edition of the Indian Super League, ISL 2016.
Vingada recently coached the Portugal Under-20 team which came third in the FIFA U-20 World Cup and perfectly suits with the franchise’s point of view towards the game, to play an exciting and energetic brand of football and also promote the youngsters. Vingada also won the FIFA U-20 World Cup two times as an assistant to the renowned manager of Portugal, Carlos Queiroz.
NorthEast United Football Club was struggling with their head coach since the first edition of the competition. A few days ago, NEUFC terminated their contract with Csar Faras, the Venezuelan manager who coached the franchise team at the last edition of ISL. And finally, it looks like they have got the best man to cruise their team.
The 63-year old Portuguese has a mammoth experience in his back of coaching the Asian teams and lead them to success. Vingada took charge of the Saudi Arabian national football team in 1996 and helped them to win the AFC Asian Cup title in the very same year. He also played a crucial part behind the countries qualification for the 1998 FIFA World Cup.
In his long, illustrious 35 years long career of coaching Vingada has won numerous trophies and awards. In 2003, the Portuguese maestro came to the verge of becoming the assistant manager of Real Madrid. He also served the role of the Technical Director of Benfica, one of the most successful clubs in Portugal.
Apart from managing the Saudi Arabia national side, Vingada also coached the Iran Olympic Side, the Egyptian National U-23 Football team and Jordan National Football Team. He not only got success with the national sides but also won trophies with the club teams too.
In 2003, Vingada took charge of the Egyptian football club El Zamalek and won the Egyptian premier league, the Saudi-Egyptian Super Cup, and the African Super Cup, all in one season. In that year, he created a unique record of finishing the season without losing a single match. Later in 2010, he became the manager of FC Seoul and guided his team to win the K-League.
Vingada is very much thrilled about taking the charge of the NorthEast United Football Club and said about his new adventure, “John Abraham, and I have the same outlook on the game and the team. We want to bring in more talent that will be professional and willing to learn and evolve into better players.”
Later the Portuguese added, “The club has been putting in a good amount of efforts, and you can see that over seasons. The club currently has talented players, and I aim to train the team and bring a good balance between each player. This season we hope to see better results for NEUFC.”
Talking about his coaching style, ‘The Professor’ commented, “I think that I am a coach who respects the man behind the player. Working with the talented Indian boys is an exciting prospect for me. The players we will now bring in will complement the existing squad,”
NEUFC owner, John Abraham is also as much excited as the new head coach and said, I welcome Nelo Vingada as the new head coach of NEUFC. The team looks forward to learning from his tremendous leadership skills and the strategic acumen,”
Later the Bollywood superstar added, “His international experience makes him the most suitable coach to nurture and leads the team. Nelo has already proved himself as a winner and his attitude matches the vision we harbour for the club,”
Now with a veteran coach with tremendous international experience and tutelage to guide the team in the ISL Season 3, it is interesting to see the whether NEUFC can shine in the upcoming tournament or will they disappoint their millions of fans, just like the previous two editions.
