Nissan has officially launched its new Terrano in the Indian market. The new Terrano has been priced between Rs 9.99 lakh and Rs 13.6 lakh (all prices ex-showroom Delhi). The Terrano is very similar to the previous generation, although an estimated 22 changes are rumored to have been made. Launched in October 2013, the old Terrano was pitted against the Hyundai Creta and the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza.

The Terrano has not received as much traction as the Renault Duster, which is its twin sibling. Having said that, the Terrano was a very compact, powerful, and opulent car. The new Terrano has an uplifted facade and dollops of chrome on the front. Boasting L-shaped LED DRLs (Daytime Running Lights), the new car will also conform by the new road safety norms as mandated by the government and the RTO.

Under The Hood

With a 1.6-litre petrol engine mated to 5-speed manual gearbox complementing a 1.5-litre diesel engine connected to two transmission options, a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed AMT gearbox, nothing has changed under the hood for the new Terrano. The facade has received a slight upgrade as well. The car is taller and a tad more muscular as well.

A Safer Car

In keeping with Renault’s standards as being one of the safest car manufacturers around, the new Terrano is a very safe car. It offers airbags, antilock braking systems, electronic brakeforce distribution, as well as electronic stability control. The Terrano is already a taller car with a lower centre of gravity. The Terrano is already a feature-rich car as well. With a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment for both music, navigation, and cruise control, the interiors have also gotten new enhancements with dual-tone interiors.

The Future

Nissan has already confirmed that it is looking toward the Indian market in a big way. Nissan India Operations president Guillaume Sicard stated that the company had plans of phasing out the Micra hatchback and the Sunny sedan. The Terrano has been priced competitively. The Terrano XL has been priced at Rs 9.99 lakh, the XED at the same price, the XLD (O) has been priced at Rs 11.92 lakhs, the XVD PRE AMT has been priced at Rs 14.20 lakhs and the XVD PRE has been price more conservatively at Rs 13.60 lakhs.
