Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo: Bu Bu Jing Xin, Tong Hua’s intriguing historical fiction novel based on Imperial China, has invited a number of screen and stage adaptations, and the South Korean version titled Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo has proven to be a favourite among fans. The television show which stars the likes of Lee Ji-Eun and Lee Joon-Gi, both popular faces in the Korean entertainment industry, started airing this year on August 29. Thanks to the fresh nature of the show, and the fantasy elements in the story that is based on time travel, Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo has quickly caught on with fans who can’t get enough of Hae Soo’s romantic involvements with some of the most revered princes in the land.
However, it is known that the show will air for a total of 20 episodes and the upcoming sixteenth episode marks the gradual approach of its ending. This understandably has caused fans to be greatly concerned about how the show will end, and most importantly, who Hae Soo will ultimately end up with. But as recently surfaced rumours indicate, all may not turn out to be well in the upcoming few episodes of Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo.
Many fans want Hae Soo to end up with the 4th Prince Wang So, but spoilers suggest that the two will not have a happy ending. Instead, Hae Soo may end up going back to the 21st century where she had originally come from, leaving her love story with the prince incomplete. Hae Soo had been transported to the 10th century after she drowned while trying to save a child in the present day. Even though her past attempts at being transported back to the 21st century have not been successful, it does seem plausible that she will not be caught in the past for the rest of her life. Whether Hae Soo likes it or not, she may go back to being the woman she was before travelling through time by the last episode of Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo.
In another adaptation, the main female character, or Hae Soo’s counterpart, had died during the time when Wang So’s equivalent became the Emperor. It is worth noting that Hae Soo had been transported at a time when she was dying, and this may mean that her death as Hae Soo will take her back to the future. Besides, the show has been quite faithful to the overarching historical events surrounding the show. So if the creators keep that up, Wang So will end up marrying someone else instead of Hae Soo.
However, NewsEveryDay reports that if indeed the lovers do not end up together in the past, there may be a possibility of uniting in the future. Whatever be the rumours, fans are excited to find out what happens next on the show.
Episode 16 of Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo airs on October 17, 2016.
