BioWare has recently announced the release date for the fourth instalment in their acclaimed Mass Effect series, titled Mass Effect: Andromeda. As the name suggests, the new game will take its players outside of the Milky Way (which is where the earlier games were based in) and pitch them against the odds that the far away Andromeda galaxy will pose ahead of them. In a way, Mass Effect 4 is shaping up to be a distinctly different experience compared to the original trilogy, which is probably what prompted the creators to name it after the Andromeda galaxy instead of attaching a numeric to the title. BioWare has already given us a few looks at the upcoming game, and now reports say that we can expect the multiplayer beta to go live soon. Much more has not been divulged, but we can expect to hear about it in January itself. From what we have heard so far, the multiplayer in the new title will be quite different from that of its predecessors. Mass Effect 4, or Mass Effect: Andromeda, will replace Commander Shepard from the earlier games with the character of Ryder. The upcoming game is also the first in the series to feature an open world environment, so players can look forward to an endless exploration of all the planets in the Andromeda galaxy along with their flora and fauna. But despite all the differences, there are a few notable links between the original Mass Effect trilogy and Mass Effect: Andromeda. Players, for instance, can choose between a male and a female Ryder while playing the game. Sara Ryder and Scott Ryder are the children of N7 soldier Alec Ryder, and both characters will be present in the game together. Choosing to play Mass Effect 4 as either Sara or Scott will have the other character assist the player character. The Mako from the earlier games also makes a return in a brand new avatar as the Nomad, which will be of tremendous help for land-based exploration. There are also a lot of other rides, including arks, spaceships, and others. However, sources speculate that Mass Effect: Andromeda might mark the beginning of a new series centred around the Andromeda setting. Mass Effect 4 is set several centuries after the events of Mass Effect 3 when the surviving humans travel outside the Milky Way to find a suitable place to call home in another, completely alien galaxy. But as is to be expected, they will not have it so easy. In their pursuit of a new home, the humans will become entangled in a large interplanetary war that is brewing in the Andromeda. Their role in the war will be key in determining their future in the new galaxy. We also have some idea about how the gameplay and missions of the new game. Mass Effect: Andromeda is coming out on the Windows PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 on March 21, 2017, in the USA. A Europe release will follow two days later.
