Our lifestyle habits have a direct effect on our healths. Our mind, body and heart all need proper diet, a good exercise regime and positive thoughts to function properly and remain healthy. But only a small population actually work hard to achieve this. It is a fact that conditions like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, stroke and cardiac arrest etc are affecting an increasing number of people and also younger individuals with passing time.  Heart conditions can even prove fatal and this is why it is important to take care of your heart health through everyday efforts.   • Engage in physical activities everyday

Even if you can’t find the time to join a gym or engage in rigorous physical workout every day, you must atleast spare some time everyday to work towards the wellbeing of your body. 30 minutes of moderate intense activity is recommended not just for better heart health but also for your mind and body. Take the steps instead of the elevator, cycle your way to your workplace and walk to small distances rather than using your car or public transportation.

  • Make small dietary improvements

For your better heart and overall health, it is recommended that you make not huge but small dietary improvements. For example, include a lot of fruits, vegetables, whole grains etc to your diet on a daily basis and whenever possible, cut down on fatty meat and tropical oils.  Avoid fizzy drinks; sugar sweetened beverages and junk foods as these help to lower down harmful cholesterol which can thereby improve overall heart health. Also eat a handful of nuts including walnuts, almonds, and peanuts etc everyday as these are good for the heart.

  • Try to engage in activities that make you happy

Did you know that most heart problems occur due to high stress levels in everyday life? Well this is why it is important to avoid taking too much stress and engage in activities which make you happy. Boosting emotional health is not difficult and only needs you to divert your mind from thoughts of negativity. Watch light hearted movies, spend time with people who make you happy, pep talk yourself regularly and listen to music that soothes the soul. It is a fact that laughing released endorphins which trigger receptors in blood vessels to release nitric oxide which thereby increases blood flow and reduces chances of heart problems.

  • Quit unhealthy lifestyle habits

If you are a smoker, then it is advisable that you either quit or atleast cut down on cigarettes as much as possible to improve your heart health. Excessive drinking must be controlled and brought down to the level of moderate or occasional drinking.  Giving up on unhealthy lifestyle habits like drugs etc too helps to take care of your overall health and especially your heart.  It is true that this can’t be achieved overnight and making small changes one after the other is the right key.

  • Avoid medicines without prescriptions

At times we all tend to take certain medicines from the medical stores without prescription. This could be due to either someone suggesting you a medicine or you reading about it somewhere. But this habit must be stopped since not all medicines are suitable for everyone.  In the long run, medicines taken without any prescription can affect your health negatively and may prove harmful for your heart.

Regular health checkup is very important your heart is a vital organ, one which needs your care and love so that it can take care of you.  Concentrated efforts and small steps can help you improve its health and avoid serious heart problems.
