It has been a very busy day for LG, the South Korean consumer electronics giant. It has now been revealed that the new LG G6 will be released on February 26. The all-new flagship smartphone from LG will feature a large 5.7-inch display with a rather different and very unusual aspect ratio of 2:1. In keeping with the flavour of the year, more emphasis has been laid on minimising the top and the bottom bezels. The new phone’s screen-to-bezel ratio is greater than 90 percent, as the leaks suggest. This will be the successor to LG’s highly anticipated and yet widely panned modular smartphone from 2016.
LG G6 Specs and Features
The most notable feature on the new LG G6 is the screen.LG Display, which is the display-making arm of LG, has incorporated an all-new 5.7-inch LCD with the unusual aspect ratio of 2:1 and a QHD+ resolution. The LG G6 will have a screen resolution of 2880 x 1440 pixels, which will make for stunning pictures and videos. Thenew phone will be relying on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 SoC which will make the cut as LG has ben forced to bypass the relatively more advanced SD 835. Rival Samsung’s offering, the Samsung Galaxy S8, is said to have the SD 835 under the hood. We had reported earlier today of LG’s changes in the processors for the new series here.
Physically, the newphone’s screen-to-bezel ratio is greater than 90 percent Interestingly, theXiaomi Mi Mix is the closest competitor to LG’s new handset in this race to have an all-screen display although we have ben reporting how The upcoming Galaxy 8 could have the same feature as well. Also similar to the Mi Mix and the upcoming GalaxyS8, the G6 has curved display corners.
LG G6 retains the headphone jack
This is one factor which will ensure that the LG G6 will go down as the one phone which went against the tide. In spite of the Apple iPhone 8 and the Samsung Galaxy S8 ditching the headphone jack, the LG G6 will have a 3,5mm headphone jack. LG looks to improve the overall design this year, with sources indicating that the G6 will be made entirely out of glass and metal, again similar to the offerings from its bigger cousins. The phone will be waterproof and will feature a non-removable battery. This is essential for the waterproofing for obvious reasons.
LG G6 Launch and Price
The new LG smartphone will launch on February 26 and will be the star of the Mobile World Congress or MWC which kicks off in Barcelona. The price of the new flagship is unknown as of now but a price tag of$750 is expected. The early launch will be a desperate gamble by LG which has been lagging behind in the smartphone market and is looking for value differentiation.
