NBC has released a new teaser for its long-runningseries, Law and Order: Special Victims Unit, Season 18. The popular American crime drama series, often called just SVU,was renewedfor its eighteenth season in February 2016, even before Season 17 reached its conclusion.
The show which airs on NBC is part of the original Law and Order franchise which aired for the first time in 1990 and was one of the longest runningcrime drama series with ongoing characters on American primetime television at the time of its conclusion. Both the shows also have the same creator, Dick Wolf.
Ever since the new season was announced, lots of spoilers have been doing the rounds. According to reports, one of the major focuses of the upcoming season will be the drama surrounding the relationship between Lieutenant Olivia Benson and Captain Ed Tucker. Fans have been shipping the two for a long time, and the two definitely have the potential to be a super-couple. But rumour has it that Season 18 will not see them sailing through their relationship without hindrances, and the reason behind all the tension will be attributed to none other than the arrival ofElliot Stabler.
Elliot Stabler and Olivia Benson shared aprofessional history together which had gradually ascended towards a personal one. But Christopher Meloni’s (the actor who portrayed the character) departure from the showresultedin the character’s sudden, off-screen resignation. However, with the character slated to return with the upcoming season, things are expected to be thoroughly shaken up in the relationship between Olivia and Ed.
Olivia and Ed certainly seem happy together; she is a strong woman and one of the toughest officers on the force, but when she’s around Ed, she seems considerably calmed down. Olivia’s adopted son Noah,too, likes having Ed around.
But things are sure to hit a rough patch upon Elliot’s return. Elliot and Olivia seemed very compatible with each other, and what may complicate things further is Elliot’s lack of knowledge about Olivia’s present relationship with Ed.Whether or not Elliot’s return will bring about significant consequences to the personal choices of Olivia Benson awaits to be seen when Season 18 premieres.
The show is scheduled to go on air from September 21 on NBC. It starsMariska Hargitay and Robert John Burke as Olivia Benson and Ed Tucker. Other cast members include Ice-T, Kelli Giddish, Peter Scanavino, and Raul Esparza.
