ISL 2016

The second week of November has set in, and it’s time that teams in the ISL 2016 start looking at the current table with more purpose. And FC Goa would be the team who would need to consider it more seriously for they are in a danger of losing out on the spot in the top four. The current situation is poised very delicately for the side from the Western side of India.

The season of ISL 2016 has not been up to the mark as far as FC Goa is concerned. They started off in a very poor style as they lost to NorthEast United FC when they met at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium, Guwahati. The hosts left the last year’s semifinalist red-faced with a 2-0 win. Emiliano Alfaro scored for the home side as they registered their first win against FC Goa for the first time in the history of ISL. Since that defeat, FC Goa has failed to gain the momentum and their ISL 2016 campaign has gone completely wayward.

In the current state of affairs, FC Goa lies at the bottom of the table with 6 defeats in 9 matches. They have managed to clinch only two victories in the whole campaign and have drawn in one. And they have only 7 points in their kitty. However, things can get better if they manage to eke out a win against NorthEast United FC. This is going to be a crucial match, and they will also have the home advantage on their side as the match is going to be played at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Fatorda in Goa.

ISL 2016

Regarding this do-or-die match, FC Goa’s assistant coach has found saying, “Football provides with the inspiration. In football we see everything. In the first season, we were at the bottom of the table but we won six games and qualified with one round to spare. I am not saying that surely we will do it again but we will do everything to make it happen. It still depends entirely on us.”Definitely they can take inspiration from their past performances particularly in the first season of the ISL where they came from nowhere to finish within the top four.

Coming to NorthEast United F C, this is going to be a crucial match for them also. NorthEast United FC opened the season with a bang, but somehow that spark has been missing for quite some time now. And as a consequence of that, they have slid down to the 5th spot in the table. They will also look forward set their game going once again as they aim to end up within the top four of the table at the end of the group stages in ISL 2016.

Both teams will be looking forward to their marquee players to put up a stellar performance. However, FC Goa will be missing out their dependable players at the back. While Richarlyson Felisbino will be missed as a defensive screening, Arnolin will be missed at the back as both of them has been the consistent performer for FC Goa despite sitting at the bottom of the table. NorthEast United FC might also be missing their key players due to injury although their coach did not mention anyone’s name.

However, this is going to be really exciting when these two will be going head to head for the second time in the ISL 2016. The first went in favour of the team from the northeastern part of India. FC Goa will be looking to settle the score against them by getting a win in this match. Both the teams are eager to win the match which will set both teams rolling once again in their aim to finish in the top four at the end of the group stages of the ISL 2016.
