Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan posted a picture with his wife Safa Baig Shareef on Facebook and Instagram on Monday and was criticized by users for showing his wife’s face. While his wife’s face was covered by her hands, showing only her eyes, Irfan was slammed for posting the picture anyway by religious fanatics. One user went as far as to comment that the cricketer shouldn’t have posted a picture showing his wife’s nail polish.
Irfan Khan Pathan made his debut for the Indian cricket team in the 2003/04 Border-Gavaskar Trophy and was part of the national team, a core member, until his decline in form during 2006. He has been in and out of the playing eleven since then in ODI and T20 matches. His appearance in the test cricket matches has been rare. He was named the 2004 Emerging Player of the Year by the International Cricket Council and his performance was often compared to Pakistani cricketer Wasim Akram.

The couple has shared many beautiful moments over the years and has had a peaceful marriage. He posted a picture with the caption ‘This girl is trouble #love #wifey’, and was criticized for his wife’s dressing sense and nail polish. People went as far as to say that he shouldn’t have posted any picture of his wife on social media at all. Nail polish is considered a haram in Islam and the conservatively minded people didn’t leave a chance to point it out. People wish that Safa, being the wife of a Muslim, be kept behind a parda at all times. People also wished that Safa keeps her arms covered, a Farz in Islam.
