Two independent reports have confirmed that the Apple is about to replace the home button with the ‘Force Touch home button’. It means, instead of the separate home button which is currently found on iPhone, the iPhone 7 will come with anew home button that will sit flush with the rest of the phone.
Replacing the physical mechanism, rumour is that Apple is employing ‘Force Touch’ technology. Under this technology, a motor inside the handset will provide the sensation that the home button is being physically pressed. Furthermore, in order to create the feel of the button, Apple will add haptic feedback quiet similar to that of the Force Touch trackpad on the Macbook. In case, Apple needs to use a different physical button for resetting the phone. The new approach is said to reduce the number of broken devices.
With the new home button, Apple is perhaps setting up standards of iPhone 8 which is rumoured to lack home button and will look something like a ‘single sheet of glass’.
It is believed that the iPhone 7 will lacka headphone jack and will be waterproof. Physically the handset is going to look similar to that ofiPhone 6 and 6S and probably look a lot cleaner. It’ll haveimproved camera, as well a new rear design with hidden antenna lines.

As for theHome Button redesign, rival handsets like OnePlus 3 and HTC 10 is already making the transition into this technology. So far they haven’t gathered too many negativefeedbacks. It’s worth recalling that in May this year, LG had announced that they are makingfingerprint sensor directly into its displays, and it’ll enable Apple to do away with the home button entirely.
