Indu Sarkar

Madhur Bhandarkar has revealed his next film. It’s a love story set against the backdrop of the 1975 Emergency – a 21-month long period from 1975 to 1977. He has named the film Indu Sarkar.

We have learned from sources that the film will show the violent era the country experienced in the late 70sunder Indira Gandhi’s tenure as Prime Minister. The shooting of the film is scheduled to begin from November this year. As of now, we have no news on the cast and no idea on the release date.

Bhandarkar, aPadma Shri awardee made his debut with Trishakti in 1999. He then went on to make some of the country’s most critically acclaimed movies likeTraffic Signal, Chandni Bar and Page 3 that won him the National Film Award.Bhandarkar has been commercially very successful too.

According to The Quint,Madhur Bhandarkar is considered to be quite close to the Modi government and such proximity may bring in some advantage at the filmmaking process. The idea of the film has been around for some time and had even receivedsevere resistance from the governmentbefore Modi.

The current regime is actually proving to be very beneficial for whoever wants to makean anti-Congress or pro-BJP issue related films. Recently we heard that Paresh Rawalis willing to make a film on PM Modi. BJP MP from Ahmadabad, Rawal said he has a mind of playing the lead character. When asked if he had Modi’s blessing for making the film, Rawal revealed:The PM has no problem with the making of the film. When I first told Mr Modi about this, his first reaction was, “If you want to make a film, go ahead.” As of yet, we don’t have a name or release date for the upcoming movie.

Speaking ofIndu Sarkar, Bhandarkar is a master of his task and is known to show the dark and fearful side of any story. We trust that the story is in good hands. Our hopes are high for this one.
