Assassin’s Creed, the open world action adventure gaming franchise that has been in existence since 2008, has lately seen a steady downfall in its popularity for the mostly “old wine in a new bottle” feel that the newer titles carry. But fans can rest assured knowing that developer Ubisoft is well aware of that, and is willing to work hard to bring to them what they really expect from the series with its next instalment. But on the flipside, a new release is unlikely to happen anytime soon. Ubisoft has already said that 2016 will not be the year for the next Assassin’s Creed title to be released, and now newer reports are stating that a 2017 release is also a distant possibility.
But thanks to online leaksters, we can get glimpses into what the creators are planning for the next Assassin’s Creed game, rumoured to be titled Assassin’s Creed Empire. New screenshots demonstrating the developmental stage of the new game have surfaced online, which seem to confirm earlier reports that this time around, players will be taken to the mystical lands of Egypt. The screenshot showcases the “Assassin’s Creed” logo at the top right side of the screen, and even though not much can be made out from it, you can clearly see the bare backbones of a pyramid in the background. In fact, the image is divided into two sections, with one side showing a prototype, and the other side demonstrating an example of a final rendering of the pyramid.
Assassin’s Creed, Ubisoft’s best-selling franchise, has taken players through different time periods in history such as the Renaissance, the French Revolution, and the Victorian period, while covering some of the world’s most intriguing locations including India, Russia, France and China among others. But as is expected from a franchise that has been running for so long, the games have been growing increasingly stale in recent times. The developers are well aware of the fact that such a long-running series needs rethinking from the ground up at regular intervals, and that is exactly what they are trying to achieve with the upcoming game. As a result, fans can expect Assassin’s Creed Empire to be significantly delayed.
According to a recent post on 4chan from someone who claims to be one of the developers, the upcoming game will opt for a feel similar to The Witcher with its player progression and free-form combat system. The post also claims that fans will not hear anything about Assassin’s Creed Empire until 2017. For now, we can only wait to find out what’s in store.
