It is the proudest moments for the students of IIT-Bombay. The ORCA, their newest creation is the fastest racing car in India and can pick up the speed at 145 km/h, with an acceleration of 0-100 in less than 3.5 seconds. Another great news attached to this creation is the car all set to compete in the Formula Student racing in the UK, upcoming July. This car is designed in IIT Mumbai campus. As per the news, more than 70 students from more than 8 streams of engineering and the project took the initiative for around 10 months to complete.
Built with more than 20,000 components which had a weight of 55 kgs that has finally reduced to the weight of just 29kg. This is really commendable as the lighter weight is helping in increasing the speed.
Rishabh Kappasia, a 4th-year student of Engineering Physics who leads Team ORCA answered to the reporter:
“With an acceleration of 0-100kmph in 3.47 seconds, ORCA is faster than any other sports car made by Porsche, Tesla or Audi. Not only is its acceleration a record, it is the first time we have a special steel-frame chassis with carbon-fibre manufactured body, which not only reduces the weight but also stabilises the car at high speeds,”
This creation is going to take the brilliant students of India to the Formula Student UK competition, where the electric and IC engine cars will be judged on the type of engineering and the presentation skill to compete among others. The best part is the IIT-Bombay engineers are participating in this competition for the last five years. The proud declaration is they are the only team to receive the FS award for designing improvement for the last three consecutive years.
Good going boys! We are proud of you.
